High Standards for Holy People

Identification as the people of God involves a responsibility of practical godly living. Jesus is Lord and He has the right to regulate every aspect of our lives. Do you struggle with yielding control of your life to the authority of Christ? The nation of Israel had standards of living defined in the Law of Moses. Keeping these standards did not earn Israel their position with God, but they had the standards because of their position with God (Leviticus 19:1-2).

There Is No Right Way to Do the Wrong Thing

Israel was preparing to enter a territory that was saturated with demon worship. The Lord instructs His people in the proper guidelines of worship. There is only one right way to worship God. This passage reveals guidelines related to a particular period in salvation history. The Levitical priesthood and sacrificial worship system were a parenthesis in God’s timeline and was symbolic of the eternal sacrifice of Christ Jesus the Lamb of God (Hebrews 9:9-10).

In Deuteronomy 12:1-32, we learn about forbidden practices that are demonic, permitted practices done wrong, and how you can’t sanctify demonic religious practices.

Respect the NAME Above All Names

The ten commandments govern how we should relate to God and to our neighbor. The personal name for God is used over 6,500 times in the Old Testament. God revealed His name to His people so that we can have relationship with Him. A wife takes on the name of her husband at marriage and God’s people take on His name when we enter relationship with Him. Are you representing His name well?

In Deuteronomy 5:11, we are reminded of the power and importance of God’s name and warned against using it irreverently.

Your Future Victory Is Predicated Upon Present Obedience Motivated By Past Deliverance

In the first four chapters of Deuteronomy Moses is recounting the mighty deeds of the Lord conducted on behalf of Israel. The purpose was to motivate the people to simple obedience, so they could maintain longevity in the Promised Land. What would it take for you to trust the Lord with your future?

In Deuteronomy 4:32-49, we are reminded of the uniqueness and graciousness of our God, and how that should make us desire to obey Him.

Healthy relationships require commitment, loyalty, and faithfulness. Contracts govern the terms of impersonal business relationships and violations are addressed through legal action. Covenants set the boundaries for more intimate relationships and violations have spiritual, mental, and physical consequences. God desires to have a healthy functional relationship with His people. New Age religions and the interfaith movement challenge the belief that Christ Jesus is the only Savior.

In Deuteronomy 4:15-31, we are reminded about God’s call to the Israelites and to us to remain loyal to Him and the consequences of unfaithfulness.

How to Maintain Stability During the Storm

The Lord desires that we maintain a correct view of Him in the midst of trials. Knowing who God is and knowing God’s character will help you become stable during the storm.

In James 1:9-18 we are reminded about how to gain proper perspectives on poverty and riches, patiently suffering through trials, and the source of good and evil.

Are You Fit to Fight?

From the beginning God’s faithful remnant has suffered persecution from without (external threat) and combated false teaching from within (internal threat). Extreme liberal theology is an internal threat to the church because it discredits the authority of the Scriptures and promotes a lifestyle with no moral accountability. Jude writes to the church urging us to contend for the body of Christian doctrine and example of godly living taught by the Lord Jesus and the Apostles.

While reading through Jude 1:1-25, we talk about the absolute authority of the Christian Scriptures, false teachers within the Church, and how we can become fit to fight false doctrine as believers.
