Life is full of experiences, some are joyous and some are difficult and painful. How should the believer respond in these varied challenges? Do you swear when you should pray? As we finish our study in the book of James, we read James 5:13-20 to learn how we are supposed to depend upon the Lord through hard times.

Riches and the Righteous

Riches or money is mentioned many times in the Bible. If we include the words gold, silver, wealth, inheritance, debt, poverty, and related topics, it turns out that the Bible pays a great deal of attention to financial matters. I’m convinced that this is because what we do with our riches reveal the condition of our hearts. And it puts a spotlight on who we really serve.
Matthew 6:24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other.” You cannot serve God andwealth.

In James 5:1-6, we talk about the importance of godly contentment and the relationship a believer should have to material wealth.

The death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ was for the glory of God and the salvation of sinners that were doomed apart from the intervention of a gracious God. Since God is Omniscient (He knows everything and everyone) and Omnipotent (He has all power) we have to realize He displayed His wisdom and power as our Lord and Savior died a horrific and gruesome death on a cross. We celebrate because He was resurrected three days later. As Scripture gives the evidence to reveal the source of your wisdom, are you really as smart as you think you are?

In James 3:13-18, we look at the difference between Godly wisdom and worldly wisdom as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
